Choose it deliberately
Choose a textarea for text that needs more than one line to be written well.
Use when
The answer is sentences: comments, descriptions, messages. The field grows or scrolls instead of truncating.
Use a text field when
The value is one line — a name, a title, a search. A textarea for a short value invites line breaks the data cannot store.
Composition
Keep the height honest and the actions close to the text.
Growth
Combine `autoGrow` with `maxRows` in chat-like inputs; keep a fixed `rows` in forms where fields should line up.
Composer
Put send and formatting actions in `#footer` rather than next to the field, so the text and its actions read as one object.
