Buttons
Segmented button
Present a small set of related, mutually comparable options in one connected control — pick one, or toggle several.Use it for comparison, not navigation
A segmented button lets people compare a few options in place; it does not move between pages.
Group related options
Use it for 2–5 mutually comparable choices that fit on one line, like a view or a date range.
Do not use it to navigate
Switching pages or views belongs to tabs or navigation, not to a selection control.
Write short, parallel segments
Segments read as a set, so keep their content consistent.
Parallel labels or consistent icons
Use one-word labels, or a consistent icon style; do not mix a labelled and an icon-only segment in the same group.
Keep the set small
Beyond five segments the group crowds; move to a select or a list instead.
