Chip group

Single or multiple selection, mandatory and max rules, and one tab stop — standalone chips still work.

Semantics and name

The semantic root and accessible name must match the actual choice.

  • Accessible name

    Pass aria-label or aria-labelledby to the group root: it falls through to role=group.

  • Toggle semantics

    Registered chips are toggle buttons with aria-pressed, and blocked chips add aria-disabled.

Keyboard and focus

The component supports expected controls without creating focus traps.

  • Roving tabindex

    One tab stop: the first selected chip, otherwise the first focusable one.

  • Arrows, Home and End

    Arrows follow direction and RTL; Space and Enter keep native button activation.
